Martyr Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were hanged on 23 march,1981. They sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country. Britishers handed them for killing John Saunders. This day is also known as Martyr’s Day or Shaheed divas to pay tribute to the freedom fighters.
Their sacrifice for the country continued to stir the motivation and inspiration in the youth till the independence was achieved in 1947.
The trio was hanged in Lahore jail. The real battle of the trio started when Lala Lajpat Rai passed away during the protest against Simon commission. He was protesting because there was no Indian in the political situation.
Following his death, Shaheed Bhagat Singh vowed to take revenge for his death. He conspired an attack on James A. Scott who ordered the lathi charge when Rai was protesting. However, instead of Scott, they shot John P. Saunders in a mistaken identity.
